About Us
Unique Royal Sisters Lead for Deprived Women and Girls Initiative (UNIQUE SISTERS) is a non-governmental / non-political, peer-led community-based organization, that targets Female sex workers (FSW), Women who use drugs, Orphans & Vulnerable Children (OVC), Lesbian Bisexual Queer women (LBQ Women), Girls and other vulnerable marginalized people with the aim of improving their sexual and reproductive health and right to help them overcome stigma & discrimination and make informed decisions about their sexuality and health.
The initiative was formed in 2020 and registered with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC in December 2022) with registration no; CAC/IT/195785 to campaign and advocate for human right, health, empowerment and Gender Based Violence through capacity building and also in response to multiple layers of oppression experienced by key population, vulnerable and marginalized women and girls especially Female Sex Workers and Women who use Drugs in Nigeria.
Unique Royal Sisters Lead for Deprived Women and Girls Initiative (UNIQUE SISTERS) exists to be the voice of vulnerable and marginalized women, girls and children especially female sex workers and LBQs locally in the east. UNIQUE SISTERS is working with a mandate to reach out to these population with Livelihood and Economic empowerment, Human Right program, Health, Education, Sexual Reproductive health and Right (SRHR) and HIV/AIDs/ prevention services so as to reduce poverty, ignorance and new incidence amongst them and to connect with national networks advocating for the rights of vulnerable and marginalized girls and women. We advocate for rights-based health and social services, freedom from abuse and discrimination and self-determination for vulnerable and marginalized girls and women. We were also founded to bridge the gap in mainstream women's rights programming. UNIQUE SISTERS is a leader in the promotion and protection of women and girls against violence.
UNIQUE SISTERS since its formation has partnered with other organizations to implement both health and human rights intervention in Abia, Enugu and Cross River States respectively. The organization has strong community presence and has rooted relationship with all stakeholders in the states. UNIQUE SISTERS is a member of Nigerian Sex Workers Association (NSWA) and KP secretariat in Nigeria.
UNIQUE SISTERS aims to work towards providing comprehensive care and support that will bring relief to the marginalized women and youth who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and other related infectious diseases in a loving and compassionate way and mitigate the scourge of these infection among the communities and beyond through result-oriented strategies to give hope to the hopeless.
Our initiative exists to encourage marginalized and underserved women in our community to make proper informed choice about their health in other to improve their quality of life. We believe that all women have equal rights to live without violence. To achieve this, we must have equal power in our personal life and in the society. We will work for women’s equality by challenging discrimination based on gender, occupation, ethnicity, ability, religion, class and other forms of oppression.

AREA OF OPERATION:
We operate in Abia and Cross River States covering all the 17 Local Government Areas respectively.
TARGET GROUP:
The target groups include; Female Sex Workers, Women Who use Drugs, Orphans and vulnerable children, LBQ women, People living with HIV and AIDS. The target groups are important and essential component of this initiative as it’s expected that significant changes, learning and development will take place for them and they will have access to basic needs; education, health care, protection and a sense of belonging to the society.
OPERATIONAL DEFINITION OF TARGET POPULATION
WOMEN:
Refers to all women including child bearing women who are the majority. Where women are mentioned, children become very vital.
DEPRIVED:
Person or (group of persons) lacking a specified benefits that is considered important both material and cultural benefits.
GIRLS:
UNIQUE SISTERS will join other non-governmental organization (NGO’s) to lead in providing access to health of all marginalized group in the society. The organization shall fight against women/girls trafficking and all forms stigma and discrimination.
